How to keep your fingers from turning green even if you leave the brass ring on, coating it to prevent rust.

How to keep your fingers from turning green even if you leave the brass ring on, coating it to prevent rust.

My favorite brass accessory. I prefer gold to silver accessories, and I prefer dull gold brass accessories to gold accessories. If you wear brass rings, your fingers will turn blue. This turns blue when the patina on the brass sticks to your fingers. It looks ugly and bothers me, so I applied a top coat for nails only on the inside so that my fingers don't turn blue.

What is patina?

Brass is a mixed metal of copper and zinc. Among the ingredients, copper reacts with moisture in the air and sweat from the skin to form patina. kind of rust. Not toxic. It sometimes sticks to old accessories and jackets, but it can be removed by rubbing.

It's almost impossible to prevent patina, so I personally think it's better to take measures to prevent it from getting on your fingers. It is possible to completely cover the brass with the top coat introduced this time, but it loses the dull luster peculiar to brass, so I only apply it to the inside.

Apply top coat to prevent brass rings from turning blue on fingers

If you've ever worn a brass ring, have your fingers turned blue? I will always be It's troublesome to remove it every time I wash my hands, and my hands get sweaty. I thought there was nothing I could do about it, but one day both of my hands turned blue and it looked disgusting, so I thought of a countermeasure to prevent the patina from getting on my fingers. As a result, applying a top coat for nails was the most effective.

Before applying the top coat. There is no problem because the top coat does not react especially when applied to brass.

This time I will paint these three brass rings. Wash before painting. If there is already a patina, remove it with a cotton swab. If the patina is severe, soak it in vinegar or baking soda to remove it. Alternatively, it can be removed immediately by putting it in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Because the inside before painting is not coated, the reflection is dull.

Use a top coat from a 100-yen shop. 100-yen stores such as Daiso, Can Do, and Seria sell them almost everywhere.

This is a quick drying top coat from Daiso.

Because it is a top coat for nails, the tip of the brush is thin, making it easy to apply to accessories such as rings.

Apply and let dry for a while. The trick is to apply thin coats several times to avoid lumps. Also, if you have a thick ring, if you apply a little paint to the sides of the ring, the finger will not turn blue.

Applying a top coat will inevitably result in shine. If you use a matte type matte top coat, it will not be shiny and will have a matte texture. This time, I tried applying a top coat as an experiment, but I found that the patina was less likely to appear and my fingers were less likely to turn blue, so I plan to use a matte top coat next time.

Paint it and let it dry and you're done. I actually wore it and spent a day, but my fingers did not turn blue! I was impressed because if the coating was perfectly done, there would be no patina on my fingers at all. I can't believe how effective such a simple coating is. The top coat gradually wears off when you wash your hands, so you'll need to reapply it, but it doesn't come off if you put it on for a day, so if you don't wear a brass ring every day, it might last a long time.
